The American Nuclear Society currently supports four Consensus Committees. A Consensus Committee is the balanced body that conducts the consensus ballot on proposed standards in order for them to become official, approved standards. Each Consensus Committee has a defined scope of activities. The four ANS Consensus Committees are as follows:

N16, Nuclear Criticality Safety

N17, Research Reactors, Reactor Physics, Radiation Shielding, and Computational Methods

Nuclear Facilities Standards Committee (NFSC)

Risk Informed Standards Committee (RISC)
