This award was established in 1991 to honor the late Walker Lee Cisler and to provide international recognition to leadership and achievements associated with the design, development, or deployment of fast reactor technologies.

The medal is awarded to an individual in recognition of outstanding scientific or engineering research achievements, or the management associated with the design, development, or deployment of fast reactor technologies. This award recognizes and honors excellence in engineering leadership and achievements worthy of international recognition sustained over a period of time.

Nominees need not be ANS members, but must be living at the time of selection.

Nominations must include the completed nomination form accompanied by the following supporting documents:

• A letter of recommendation
• A narrative summary of about 1,000 words, including accomplishments, period of activity, and significance of achievements
• A list of publications
• A brief chronological resume
• Letters of support (support letters recommended but not required, no more than five)
